Rome the Second Time: 15 Itineraries that Don’t Go to the Coliseum cracked the top 50 in amazon.com Italy book sales several days last week, as well as amazon’s top 50 travel reference books; the Kindle version is in the top 15 of 3 categories.. Most recently, The Chicago Tribune/McClatchey papers gave it a nice mention, and websites are picking it up. It’s not (yet) a serious rival to Eat, Pray, Love or Rick Steves’ Rome, but it’s outselling some in the Steves juggernaut, Frommer’s Rome, and many historically popular Italy books. Excerpt from The Trib: “This book is geared to the traveler who has already seen the big sights - the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, Vatican City and so on - and is ready to experience the less traveled, quirkier and definitely cheaper side of Rome; in other words, the Rome of ordinary people.” Excerpt from In Italy Online (www.initaly.com): “For anyone returning to Rome for another visit, the Introduction to this guidebook is prescribed reading. The authors honestly, aptly, and with good humor describe "living with Rome's frustrations" with reality stories not found in typical guidebooks.”
